Was 42 (108f) here today, going to be up to 45 (113f) in some parts of the
state by Friday.
Stupid weather.

Here too. It's the increase in UV that gets me the most.

As Kevin Bloody Wilson said, DILIGAF.
It's 32 every day of the year up here.

32 each day is doable so long as you have cool nights.
The killers are the 25+ nights and the 40+ days where nothing has a chance to
cool down at all.
Today is the hottest day in 6 years (since the pre-covid bushfires). But
fortunately it's been a bit overcast, so eg the ground isn't burning hot, could
still take the dog outside. Also there's quite clearly smoke in the sky from the
bushfires that are around, which is helping keep some of the direct sunlight
covered.

Could be a bad year for wildfires in my part of the world, had one of the
hottest years on record and in a severe drought. The past seven years straight
are in the top ten for record heat but "there is no climate change" is
the mantra here.

45 (113) here tomorrow. 49 (120f) in some parts of the state, which if achieved
will be the highest temperature ever recorded in Victoria.

As I sit here at 5:30 AM local time, when factoring in the wind it feels like
about 1 C. It's the dry season though and the drought is not improving. This is
after near record high temps for the season just a couple of days ago, over 30
C. It's a tinderbox here.

I heard Texas was freezing again like it did a few years back. Hope Kim is OK.

It's becoming tinderbox here. That's the fourth time since I've been here
(2004). During the summer 2019-2020 fires it was also a tinderbox. All the
fire fighters were away fighting elsewhere. There was no one here. In an area
200kms across. It was about 180kms deep but for two short lived fires in that
area. It was a near thing. The political response was to impose a new layer of
bureaucracy on the fire brigade - bureaucrats who came from other departments,
have no idea about fighting fires or fire mitigation: "Why do you need to
bulldoze the bush?"

There was a wildfire a couple of days ago that shut down the major highway a
few miles from here. It's likely there will be more in the next few months.
