It was Islamic State, or IS, who blew things up. In Iraq and Syria and Libya.

The most famous of these was Palmyra, in Syria. The archaeologist in charge stayed when they arrived, saying no one would hurt him. IS demanded he show them were the treasure was. He said there wasn't one. So they cut off his head. He was 80.
