Who's that in the painting? He must have been decorated for such heroic feats as "getting out of bed" and "having a shit" judging by the state of his jacket. Either that or he's 200 years old and has been in the military since he was 12.

He's a Russian and probably fought in the Second World War. There were plenty of opportunities to earn real medals on the Eastern Front.

Yeah but look at his campaign ribbons. Surely nobody could get that many even in a lifetime of military service? I'm sure I've never seen any British or American officers with that many.
