This is the missionary style and it was first 'imported' to South America by the Spanish colonists. But because the colonists were thought to be the promised returning gods, their way of doing it was thought to be the way of the gods. So there you go, artistic depictions of divine mating emerged. But still, what's that thing?

That's not the missionary position, chumpy. And it predates the Spanish by a long chalk.
